The Founder


Jason Cohen - Founder + Chief Executive Officer

Before starting Analytical Flavor Systems, Jason was the Founder and Executive Director of The Tea Institute at Penn State, which oversees 20+ researchers in 5 fields of study in traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Tea. Jason did his research in sensory science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence - eventually developing the Gastrograph system after 3 1/2 years of research. Jason is a professional coffee, tea, and beer taster, and when he is not trying new products, he enjoys rock climbing, ice climbing, and fencing.

Francois Aubin

Francois Aubin - Senior II Data Scientist

Francois graduated with a Ph.D. in physics from McGill University. He has built and flown a balloon-borne telescope to study the early Universe and has analyzed the data as a researcher at University of Minnesota. He now applies his data science skills to improve the flavor models of Analytical Flavor Systems.

Nabeel Sarwar

Nabeel Sarwar - Data Scientist

Nabeel completed his Bachelors of Astrophysics from Princeton University, and he is currently completing his Masters in Data Science from New York University. With carribean flare, he arrives on the scene with a wide amount of interests that all fall squarely within geekdom. When he's not working on problem sets or coding, he is usually playing DOTA, watching horror films, writing poetry, or drawing comics.

Ryan Ahn

Ryan Ahn - VP of R&D

Ryan is the second Executive Director Emeritus of the Tea Institute at Penn State. He studied chemistry at Penn State and is a former researcher at the Badding Group, a solid-state and high pressure materials chemistry lab at University Park. In his free time, he enjoys spending time exploring the ramen offerings of New York, visiting art museums, and drinking tea.

Franck Dorcely

Franck Dorcely - Lead Manager of R&D Operations

Franck joined Analytical Flavor Systems in 2019 as the Chef Manager Of Research & Development Operations. Franck brings 8 years of experience as a culinary and kitchen safety professional. Franck completed his Associate of Culinary Arts at the New York Wine & Culinary Institute and is currently a Bachelor of Hospitality candidate at Monroe College. Franck has been intrigued by food since he was five years old and continues to be inspired by his passion for experimenting with new flavors. When Franck is not developing a new recipe or panel protocol he is exploring the culture behind traditional and non-traditional dishes, playing video games, and listening to music.

Adriana Pink

Adriana Pink - Research & Development

Adriana is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at New York University. She has been a part of the team since 2019 and is passionate about strategic thinking, research, and project management. When Adriana is not working, she is either working out, reading, or binge-watching a new show on Netflix.

Aaron Ladino

Aaron Ladino - R&D Operations

Aaron Ladino is from Venezuela and studied gastronomy at the Culinary Institute of Caracas. He currently works at the company as R&D Operations Coordinator. He leads and coordinates sensory panels to collect data that is used to train the platform. In his spare time he likes to read and study food processes and learn new techniques. His goal is to become a Michelin guide inspector.

Bénédicte Bimonte

Bénédicte Bimonte - R&D Scientist

Bénédicte joined Analytical Flavor System as a R&D scientist. She studied Food Science in France and gradually specialized in chocolate, with several experiences in the industry. She has worked in product development, quality and sensory sciences. During her free time, Bénédicte enjoys baking, painting and playing music.

Gabe McElwaine

Gabe McElwaine - VP of Sales

Gabe has been building and leading sales & account teams in the consumer insights space for longer than he cares to admit. With a focus the last few years on working with international brands to streamline their data gathering & insights delivery processes through innovative technologies and AI, he is a big fan of using tech to make customers' lives easier. He graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, also attended Oxford University, and lives on Long Island with his wife and 3 kids.

Zongjun Li

Zongjun Li - Project & Operation Manager, APAC

Zongjun is the third Executive Director Emeritus of the Tea Institute at Penn State. He has a B.S. degree in Geospatial Science (GIS) at Penn State and is an affiliate researcher in Geoinformatics and Earth Observation Laboratory (GEO) in the College of Earth and Mineral Science. Zongjun is a great fan of scotch, cigar, wine, and sake. In his free time, he likes to read, meditate, and listen to Japanese underground jazz.

The Data Engineers

Andrew Foltz-Morrison

Andrew Foltz-Morrison - Team Lead - Data Engineering

Andrew has experience solving problems at every level of the data stack: implementing models, scaling them up, monitoring their performance, and visualizing their predictions. Originally with a background in geography and spatial analysis, he now handles the design and implementation of Analytical Flavor Systems' data platform, using the toolkit of functional programming to fluently translate the expertise of the data scientists and R&D team into the language of the system.

Evan Niessen Derry

Evan Niessen-Derry - Data Platform Engineer

With a focus on computing as an aid for human endeavors, Evan delights in turning the theoretically possible into the practically deployable, blending his love of functional programming, empathy, and curiosity together into a powerful source for innovation. He's also a strong proponent of winter biking, dancing for the sake of it, and daring fiction.

Krishan Vijayakumar

Krishan Vijayakumar - Data Platform Engineering Intern

Krishan is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He has a passion for all things technology and enjoys building systems, which inspired him to join AFS. While he isn't playing around with new programming languages and frameworks for his personal projects, he likes to read history books, do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and learn a new (human) language.

Ayushi Wadhwa

Ayushi Wadhwa - Senior Team Lead - Application Engineering

Ayushi is a full stack developer and has experience in creating websites for herself as well as for clients. She graduated from New Jersey Institute of Technology in Computer Science and completed her Bachelors in Information Technology from Hitkarini College of Engineering and Technology. While she dabbles in the mastery of multiple languages, her favorite projects to work on are in JavaScript. When she isn't working for Gastrograph, she also likes to sketch, indulge in DIY projects, origami or read Harry Potter.

Xianhao Cheng

Xianhao Cheng - Software Engineer

Xianhao is currently pursuing an undergraduate studies in Computer Engineering at National University of Singapore. Having worked with both hardware and software projects, his interest lies in both large scale computing and software engineering. During his free time, he enjoys playing video games, cycling and rock-climbing.
